Loper Softball Picked 10th in MIAA

Lopers Start Season February 9th at Hays

Kearney, Neb. The Nebraska-Kearney softball team is picked 10th in the 2013 MIAA preseason poll.

Head coaches vote on the makeup of the poll.

The Lopers received 81 points, just ahead of Missouri Southern State (77) and a little bit behind Northeastern State (83) and NW Missouri State (92).

Defending regular season and tournament champion Emporia State is the preseason favorite. Going 20-0 last spring in MIAA regular season games, the Hornets received 194 points and 12 of the 15 first place votes.

Central Oklahoma (177; three 1st place) and Missouri Western State (176) round out the top three

In 2012, UNK went 26-24, placing fifth in the RMAC with a 21-15 league mark. The Lopers return five starters but must replace All-RMAC second baseman Ali Seberger and workhorse pitcher Kirstie Hiatt.

Top returners include senior pitcher Becky Dunn (Papillion LaVista South), junior OF Whitney Frederick (Blair) and sophomore SS Mallory Noakes (Lincoln SW).

UNK starts the regular season with a non-conference double header at Fort Hays State on Saturday, February 9th.
