NSAA Swimming & Diving Championships Still Scheduled for Thursday-Saturday|
The Nebraska School Activities Association will conduct its 2013 State Swimming & Diving Championships as scheduled over the next three days at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
“We have received phone calls to our office claiming media outlets in the Omaha area are reporting the NSAA Swimming & Diving Championships have been postponed. Those reports are false,” said NSAA Associate Director Debra Velder.
Diving will begin Thursday with the girls’ competition starting at 9:30 a.m. The boys’ diving competition will start at the conclusion of the girls’ competition, approximately 2 p.m. The preliminary swimming events on Friday begin at 9 a.m. with the girls’ competition. The boys will take to the pool at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday’s championship finals will start at 11 a.m. with Nebraska Educational Television (NET) broadcasting the event on NET1 and online via www.netnebraska.org.
The NSAA has communicated with the schools involved in the championships, asking them to arrive in Lincoln ahead of the impending snow storm expected to hit the state.
“The NSAA Swimming & Diving Championships will remain as scheduled as we monitor the local weather forecast,” explained Assistant Director Jennifer Schwartz, who oversees swimming & diving for the NSAA. “It is up to each school to determine whether or not to bring their teams to Lincoln early. Our primary goal is to keep everyone safe as they travel to Lincoln,” said Schwartz.
With snow accumulation predicted to end Thursday evening, NSAA officials believe the City of Lincoln will have adequate time to remove snow from the main roads, allowing schools and fans to reach the Devaney Center from their hotels.
Should it be necessary, NSAA officials are willing to delay the start time of the championships to allow teams to reach the venue. However, the championships will be held the next three days.
