Demonstrators are demanding that President Barack Obama reject the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada. A number of celebrities and environmental activists, were arrested yesterday after tying themselves to the White House gate to protest the pipeline that opponents call a "carbon bomb." Supporters see it as a source of jobs and a step toward energy independence. A big rally is planned for Sunday on the National Mall.
With Nebraska's approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline route is one more piece of the puzzle in the approval process for construction. Rayola Dougher is the Senior Economic Analyst with the American Petroleum Institute and says there are many more pieces to that puzzle that need to be put into place before the project is given final approval. She says the project now is in the hands of folks in Washington. Dougher says a recent survey shows that 75-percent of those polled approve of the project.
