Hastings Men's Soccer Falls in GPAC Final|
The Hastings College men's soccer team did everything it could by out playing Midland but just couldn't finish as the Warriors upended the Broncos 1-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Final Thursday night at Lloyd Wilson Field.
Within the first fifteen minutes the Broncos put on an attacking display that saw David Torres hit terrific shots that evaded GK Lewis Wilcox but went just wide.
Felix Proessl also got in behind the Warrior defense but Wilcox got a hand on the ball pushing it just wide but the ball found its way back to Dru Kobs but his shot bounced off the cross bar.
Later on in the half Shane Davidson saw a deflected ball land at his feet and as he tried to redirect it into the goal, he chipped it just too high.
This was the story of the night for the Broncos out shooting Midland 22-7 but all it takes is one.
In the 67th minute, Midland picked up a corner kick and the ball bounced around in the box as a shot landed at Proessl's feet but he could not clear it and Ali Sodal snuck it in to the open net for the lone goal of the game.
Hastings would turn up the pressure but could not get the clean look it was looking for as Midland clamped down defensively to secure the GPAC Tournament Championship.
With the loss, Hastings falls to 18-3 (9-1) on the year and will wait for the announcement to come Sunday to see if the Broncos are in the NAIA National Tournament and will be the opponent.
