ACLU files suit against Nebraska for prohibiting driver's licenses |
Governor Heineman says state law prohibits Nebraska from giving driver's licenses to youth brought into the country illegally by their parents at a young age. The ACLU has filed suit against the state for refusing to participate in the Obama Administration's Deferred Status for Childhood Arrivals program. Heineman insists state law gives him no option. There are an estimated 1,400 young, illegal immigrants living in Nebraska. The Obama Administration program grants work permits to those brought into the country illegally at a very young age, making them eligible for driver's licenses.
