9th Street closure to reach City Council

Posted: 12/10/12 09:02

The closure of a portion of 9th street is back on the Hastings City Council agenda tonight. The Hastings City Council will consider a development agreement with Hastings College to move forward with closure of Ninth Street through between Elm and Ash avenues to make a enclosed campus. The plan was first unveiled 2 years ago, but tabled after public hearings. According to the agreement, the college would file an application to vacate that portion of street sometime around June 1, 2014.

The request to increase occupancy for the Crossroads Center Rescue Mission is also on the council agenda tonight. Executive Director Jerry Baumgartner says as their waiting list is increasing, itís showing a growing need for services for homelessness right here in Hastings.
