Johanns to not seek re-election|
Senator Mike Johanns announced yesterday he will not seek reelection. Senator Johanns released a brief statement to the media, saying he and his wife combined will have spent more than 32 years in public service at the end of this term. The Republican is 63, he's held several offices, including serving as mayor of Lincoln in the 1990s, Nebraska's governor from '99 to 2005, and as U-S Ag Secretary under President Bush from 2005 to 07. Nebraskans sent him to the U-S Senate in 2009. Governor Heineman released a statement about Johanns, saying quote, "We are forever thankful for his commitment to serving our citizens, in particular, our farmers and ranchers, and our veterans."
