Hastings Men Hold Off Midland|
The Hastings College men's basketball team saw its 18 point halftime lead get nearly erased by a barrage of three-pointers but the Warriors eventually cooled off as the Broncos came away with the all-important 87-75 win on Wednesday night at Lynn Farrell Arena.
The Broncos continued its hot shooting hitting nearly 62 percent of its shots but Midland did not go down without a fight. The Broncos also connected on 50 percent of its three-point attempts.
Beginning at the 16:48 mark of the second half, a scoring frenzy broke out as Midland would connect on eight shots from the floor in a five minute span. Seven of those shots were three-pointers.
The Bronco lead went from 17 points down to just four before Alex Guyer would answer with three of his own. The next time down the floor Brady Lollman would find Dane Bacon as he would nail one of his three three-pointers stretching the lead back to eight and the Broncos would never look back.
Hastings had five guys finish with double figures and was led by Brady Lollman has he finished with 22 points. Brett Wells, Dylan Flinn, Bacon and Thayer all hit the double digit mark as well.
Midland was led by James Parrott as he finished with a game high 24 points with 18 of those coming in the second half.
With the win, Hastings pulls within a half game of Midland for the fourth spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Standings. The Broncos improve to 18-7 (9-6) on the year and will look to close the gap on some of the GPAC leaders as they will travel to Sioux Center, IA to take on Dordt Saturday February 2 with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m..
