UNK Softball Begins|
Fort Hays State pitchers Maddie Holub and Paxton each tossed complete games to power the Tigers to a double header sweep of Nebraska-Kearney, 2-0 and 4-1, Friday afternoon in Kansas.
This was the season opener for both teams. These were non-MIAA games.
In game one, Holub threw a three-hitter, fanning 16 and walking four in the process. She struck out the side in the first, fifth and seventh innings and gave up two singles and a double.
Batting third in the order, Holub swung the hottest bat for the Tigers, going 3 for 3 with two runs scored.
Papillion senior Becky Dunn was the tough luck loser, allowing two earned on six hits and a walk over six innings. She fanned six but gave up earned runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Duran was equally as tough on UNK as she gave up just one earned run on four hits and three walks. Fanning three, she blanked the Lopers over the final four innings.
Like Holub, she was tough at the plate as well, going 2 for 3.
Creighton transfer Brittnie Kreiser (Council Bluffs, Iowa) went the distance in her UNKN debut, allowing two earned on 10 hits and a walk. At the plate, Grand Island junior outfielder Mackenzie Tomlin went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
UNK heads to the Arkansas-Monticello Tournament next weekend.
