Loper Volleyball Finishes 3rd in Nation|
The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked third in the final AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II Top 25 poll of the 2012 season.
UNK went 35-3 this fall, losing to now six-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul in the Central Regional final. This is the Lopers second highest final ranking, trailing only the 2005 team that was tabbed second.
Concordia and UNK are two of the nine Central Region teams in the final poll. The others are Minnesota-Duluth (5th), SW Minnesota State (6th), Washburn (7th), Central Missouri (8th), Truman State (16th), Wayne State (18th) and Minnesota State (24th).
Showing the strength of the Central, Minnesota State didnít even make the NCAA Tournament.
Concordia (33-4) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Tampa in this yearís National Championship match. CU was just two points away from losing in three sets, and then two points away from a four set loss, but the Golden Bears rallied to force a fifth set. There, the came back from a 14-13 deficit to beat the Spartans (32-4), 16-14.
UNK had four seniors on this yearís team, including All-Americans Jenna Rouzee (setter) and Ariel Krolikowski (outside hitter).
