GI City Administrator returns to job, recall of mayor petitioned
Posted: 07/27/12 12:47 Grand Island City Administrator Mary Lou Brown is back. Grand Island Mayor Jay Vavricek announced yesterday that Brown will resume working at City Hall, through Sept. 30. Vavricek had asked for and received Brown's resignation on June 26. Vavricek said there are no plans at this time for any kind of payment to Brown other than "normal compensation".
Less than 24 hours later, an effort to recall Grand Island Mayor Jay Vavricek is under way. According to the Grand Island Independent Jeb Wolsleben, a former city council candidate, filed a recall affidavit shortly before 9am this morning with the Hall County election commissioner’s office. Wolsleben told the paper he feels the mayor has totally ignored the wishes of the city council of bringing Mary Lou Brown back and he’s no longer fit to conduct the office of mayor of the city of Grand Island. 3,286 signatures must be gathered in 30 days to force a recall election for the mayor. If the recall petition is successful, the Grand Island City Council would have up to 75 days to conduct the election.
