2nd Annual Loper Men’s Basketball Alumni Weekend Coming Up
The UNK Alumni Association and UNK Athletic Department will host the 2nd Annual Loper Men’s Basketball Alumni Weekend on October 19-20th.
This year’s events include an alumni game and a social hour and dinner that will honor Loper men’s basketball players and coaches who are members of the UNK Athletic Hall of Fame.
On Friday, October 19th, the public is invited to attend the alumni game, which will pit the current Loper squad against basketball alumni. The game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. at the UNK Health & Sports Center. No admission will be charged but free will donations to support the men’s basketball program will be encouraged.
Loper fans are also invited to attend the Saturday social hour and dinner, which will begin with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30. Tickets for the social and dinner are $ 75.00 per person and can be purchased before October 15th by contacting the UNK Alumni Association at 308-865-8474.
There will be no auction or donation solicitation at the event.
Recognition will be given to the 22 individuals in the UNK Athletic Hall of Fame who have played, coached or in some other way positively impacted the men’s basketball program through the years. They include Steve Altmaier, Gene Armstrong, Dick Beechner, Jon Bergmeier, Don Briggs, Paul Forch, Bob Hauver, Tim Higgins, Doug Holtmeier, Jerry Hueser, Loren Killion, Bart Kofoed, Tom Kropp, Don Lackey, Gene Lawhead, Brian Nielsen, Tom Ritzdorf, Dr. L. R. Smith, LeRoy Sprague, Dr. B.M. Stevenson, Eric Strand, and Al Zikmund. A number of them will be in Kearney for the events.
