Huskers Announce Webster Signing

University of Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles announced the signing of Tai Webster on Tuesday, a move which completes the Huskers’ fall recruiting class. Webster, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard from Auckland, New Zealand, joins Nick Fuller and Nathan Hawkins, who were previously announced by Miles last month.

“I’m excited to have Tai join us!” Miles said. “He is an excellent player who will thrive in our style of play and has high-level international playing experience which will help him acclimate to basketball in the U.S.”

“There is no doubt he loved his visit to Nebraska and is excited about the team, our campus, our facilities and without question our fans! We look forward to Tai joining us next season and helping us build Nebraska basketball into a consistent winner.”

Webster, a four-star recruit by ESPN, is a member of the New Zealand National Team, and averaged 13.5 points in the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, while shooting 52.5 percent from the field, including 62.5 percent from three-point range. He also led New Zealand in scoring in pretournament games against both Olympic qualifier Brazil and Greece, which was fourth in the world at the time. Webster also led New Zealand’s gold-medal winning squad at the inaugural FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship in Italy in 2011. At Westlake Boys High School, Webster guided the school to the National Secondary Schools Basketball Championships in October, scoring 24 points in the championship game to earn tournament MVP honors.
